We have heard of the song, “let the weak say I’m strong….” by Hillsongs I supposed and many preachers citing Joel 3:10. This scripture has been taken out of context to mean God is blessing his people and making the weak strong.
Some preachers even say, “the Bible says, let the weak say im strong. Therefore, when you are feeling sick say I am healed, poor say I’m rich and unmarried say I’m married.” Ok, seriously, that’s false teaching! That’s not what the context and passage suggests at all.
If you read the passage in its context, you will understand that the words, “let the weak say I’m strong” is God mocking the enemies of Israel…Its God’s judgment, not empowerment…Surprised? Read it within the context and you will see it.
The portion of scripture (Joel 3:10-14) is not an encouragement to God’s people neither is it talking about how God will empower you if you confess positively ( religious as that may sound).
In this passage, God declares a verdict against the nations who will gather against Israel (Joel 3:1-9). God scornfully challenges them to do their best in making weapons of war and turn their frail selves into warriors (let the weak say I’m strong) but that wont be enough to charge against God and his people Israel.
There you have it. So the popular LET THE WEAK SAY IM STRONG slogan in churches is in fact a display of mere ignorance. Like I always tell my people , Context, Context, and Context is key to Bible interpretation.
