THE TIME FOR SERMON

Many times when we celebrate Anniversary, there is no time for sermon. It's a very sad thing in the church of God.

One day, I was invited to give the sermon in one Anniversary. They started around 11am, and I already prepared for at least 30minute sermon . They started calling Alaga(Special guest ) from around 1pm to around 4pm, singing for their special guest and the MC calling out Alaga.

I noticed most people we start the service together already left. Some of the Special guest will come and just seat for 20 minutes, sing for them and they drop their envelope .

I had to meet the leader around 4:30pm that my place is far, they should give me time to preach . He said , oh man of God , please , give us 30 minutes more , some special guest just arrive so we have to call them before sermon .

They start singing hymn for sermon around past 5pm , and a brother drop time on the pulpit , guess the time , 20minute.

The leader came to whisper to me that " Please sir , make the sermon brief within 10min so people won't leave". Sincerely, I don't even know what to preach again .

I just counsel them to always manage time in their Anniversary and to remember why Jesus came and that He is coming back to judge the world .

I had to leave immediately I finished and shook my head in pity. They used several hours to collect money from special guest but no time for sermon.

Note, there are many C & S churches who follow time and give enough time for sermon in their Anniversary.

We need more church leaders to be enlightened that they should give more time for people to hear the word of God and not give all the time for calling Alaga and singing for them.

We should be time conscious.all our programs should have a time we start and finish. All ministers must follow time given to them. It's part of ministerial ethics to be time conscious.

I beseech us with the mercies of God to give more time for people to hear the word of God in our Anniversary.
