DOCTRINE, TRADITION AND CULTURE

Many people misplaced tradition for doctrine in our fold. For instance,
Wearing white garment
Removing our shoe to worship
Women on period staying outside
These are not doctrine but our tradition. It's not bad , not a sin. It's just beliefs and practiced passed down from our fathers .
Doctrine is foundational teachings and beliefs of our faith that can not be changed.
For example
The Authority of the Bible
Salvation by grace through faith
The gift of righteousness
Jesus the son of God
These are doctrines that can't be changed . But tradition and culture can be changed . They're not necessary bad or sinful but may not be necessary.
In Matthew 15:1-13, the Pharisees accused Jesus disciples of eating without ceremonial washing of hands. Jesus rebuke them by saying they're hypocrites, they uphold tradition of men above the commandment of God .
Is it not Good to wash their hand ? It is
Is it a sin to wash hand ? No
But not necessary!
The Pharisees makes it compulsory for disciples to wash their hand ceremonially , anyone that is not doing these is a sinner. Yet Jesus said, that's not true!
In C & S church, we have so many traditions and culture which are not necessarily bad
For instance,
Rules of Lent : no drum, do celebration, no party, seat on mat ... These are rules to make people humble themselves before God. It's not a sin or bad to do.
Problem comes , when you think those who don't participate to stop drum, seat on floor or celebrate Anniversary have sinned. No, these things are traditions not God's commandment .
It's okay to observe lent , fast for 40days, humble yourself, seat outside church during period, don't shout hallelujah. It's very okay. But don't call those who don't do likewise a sinner.
Your fasting, rules you observe to humble yourselves does not earn you forgiveness or salvation, it's by grace not works or effort to suffer yourself. Only Jesus save!
