FASTING is simply abstinence from PLEASURES to SEEK the Face of God / Will of God .

Pleasures like : FOOD, DRINKS , SEX , MOVIES, ENTERTAINMENT,  E.T.C

FASTING IS NOT A BRIBE ! 
You can't boast about fasting for 100days to get power or favour with God . 
Whatsoever we get from God is BY GRACE NOT By GRADE . 

If there is any PAYMENT , that Payment is the Blood of Jesus Christ through whom we were redeemed (Ephesians 1:7) , for we were saved by Grace not of works that no man may boast (Ephesians 2:8-9) .

SO WHY DO WE FAST? 
Fasting help our Spirit synchronize with the Spirit of God which gives us Boldness , Sight and FAITH to walk in God's REALITY. 

FOR EXAMPLE...
If you have a HIGH WALL , you want to See over this HIGH WALL, What do you do? You get A LADDER to climb and See , THAT LADDER IS FASTING .  The Ladder doesn't bring you what you see , but help you to see .

ANOTHER EXAMPLE ...
If you want a clear channel on your Television in those days ( about 20 years ago) , you will go outside to rotate the ANTENNA, so that you will get a Clear Signal. NOW, the Rotation of Antenna for Clear Channel , Is FASTING . 

FOUR TYPES OF FASTING 

1.PLANNED FAST : This a fasting that you have to plan ahead . If it is a group of people ,like a church , you will need to blow alarm , make a flyer , let the people know that there is a fast .
 Read JOEL 2:17 and 2 CHRONICLES 7:14

If it is individual, you don't need to announce to anyone that you want to fast. 
Those who announce on social media that they want to go on 21days prayer and fasting have already received their reward. No reward from God anymore .

But you will need to tell your husband or wife if you're married ( 1 Corinthians 7:5).

2. UNPLANNED FAST : This is the kind of Fasting you didn't plan but by the power of Holy Spirit . For example, Moses never plan to fast for 40 days and night when God called him to the mountain ( Exodus 24:12)

Also our Lord Jesus Christ in John 4:21-24 never plan for fasting , also when he was led by the Holy Spirit to the wilderness to be tempted for 40 days and night (Luke 4). 

We also see such in our C & S fold , when someone go on trance . I am not talking about Roaster Trance or Transaction Trance that is common on Tiktok, I am talking about Genuine Trance for seven days or more without food or drink. 

3. ABSOLUTE FAST / DRY FAST: This is the kind of fast that you don't eat food or drink water throughout. Read Esther 4:16

The Jews didn't eat nor drink for 3 days because of Esther . They were fasting and praying that the will of God be done .

4 .PARTIAL FAST : This is also known as Daniel's Fast, you don't eat any pleasant food .

Daniel 10:2-3 
2 At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. 3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.

NOTE: This is not about eating food without salt, it's about not eating a choice food like meat or wine . 

CHRISTIAN CONDUCT DURING FASTING
Don't fast to appear to man that you're fasting.
Fast to appear to God not man.

MATTHEW 6:16-18
When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.  But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,  so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

'WHEN YOU FAST' means it is compulsory for a Christian to fast but don't make it obvious to men that you're fasting. Don't blow your trumpet. Fast in secret. Clean up, don't smell or stink because you're fasting. Don't be angry at others simply because you're hungry. Be genty, be kind , be loving . 

WHY HAVE WE FASTED ? 
Let us read Book of Isaiah 58:3-5

‘Why have we fasted,’ they say,    ‘and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves,  and you have not noticed?’

THE RESPONSE FROM GOD 👇
“Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please    and exploit all your workers. Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife,    and in striking each other with wicked fists.You cannot fast as you do today    and expect your voice to be heard on high.

Is this the kind of fast I have chosen,    only a day for people to humble themselves?Is it only for bowing one’s head like a reed    and for lying in sackcloth and ashes?Is that what you call a fast,    a day acceptable to the Lord?

WRONG REASONS PEOPLE FAST

THEY FAST TO KILL THEIR ENEMIES - People fast to kill their enemies because they have Unforgiveness in their heart. In Matthew 5:41-44 Jesus gave us principle for prayer, bless your enemies not curse them

FASTING FOR PLEASURE : When you fast and have no time to pray at all, that is hunger strike . Also fasting and watching series of movies to while away time is not fasting. You must concentrate yourself on God and prayer. 

FASTING FOR STRIFE AND QUARREL : Fasting for competition or comparison is a wrong reason to fast. Boasting about how long or how many days you fast more than others are wrong reasons to fast . This is why people fast and pray but receive no answer .

THIS IS ACCEPTABLE FASTING 
Read the book of Isaiah 58:6-7

Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:to loose the chains of injustice    and untie the cords of the yoke,to set the oppressed free    and break every yoke?

 Is it not to share your food with the hungry    and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them,    and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

THE KIND OF FASTING GOD CHOOSE 
IS TO BE KIND AND GOOD TO PEOPLE .

INTERCEED FOR OTHERS. As you pray and fast, INTERCEED for others . Pray for those under the yoke and bondage of satan to be released . Don't just think about your own problems and wants , reach out to others . Think of praying for those under bondage , pray for them . (Isaiah 61:1-3)

SHARE YOUR FOOD WITH HUNGRY 
When you fast , don't save your breakfast and lunch money, give it our to the poor or needy or use it to buy food for them . 

CLOTHE THE NAKED 
Give out your clothes to people who have nothing to wear. Don't just keep your clothes. If someone keep a secret with you, don't gossip about the secret, clothe their nakedness .

ACCOMODATE THE HOMELESS 
Bring in those who have no place to sleep . ACCOMODATE them . Cover them up. Disciple them , raise them in the way of the Lord.  Feed them with Spiritual food of the word of God. 

BENEFITS OF FASTING 
Read the book of  Isaiah 58:8-9

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,    and your healing will quickly appear;then your righteousness[a] will go before you,    and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;    you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

WHEN YOU FAST FOR THE RIGHT REASON AND PRAY RIGHT WAY 

YOUR LIGHT WILL BREAK
There will be Access to Revelation! 
Your Healing will quickly APPEAR (VISIBILITY)
RIGHTEOUSNESS will go before you
GOD'S GLORY WILL PROTECT YOU

ANSWERED PRAYER
Now God will answer your prayers. 
He will say , HERE I AM .
