Why do we celebrate Anniversary?
Is it for raising funds?
Or For giving thanks to God?
In exodus, the children of Israel were given Passover Anniversary for them to remember their deliverance from Slavery in Egypt. It's called Passover Feast for praising God and eating together.
Anytime we say, we have church Anniversary, the purpose should be
1. Giving thanks to God
2. Listening to the sermon
3. Eating together
The moment we see Anniversary as a means of making money,
You think of inviting special guests that can give money .
Many of our special guests, we don't care if they have Christ in their heart, we care if they have money in their pocket.
We target their money not their soul. Many of them can't wait to hear the sermon and we are not bothered as long as their envelope is fat .
When Anniversary committee are appointed, they always assume , they were appointed to make more money than the previous year Anniversary.
They start to think about programs , strategy to make money, what to sell in service , which MC can get money from people . And sadly, we look for preachers who can give us money even if they don't have message.
If these describe the Anniversary you celebrate in your church, it's time to REPENT .
Jesus died for the souls of men and the message of salvation should be centre of our Anniversary not a scheme for making money.
Some of you try to do launching just to call out people to donate. Nothing wrong in giving to God or church but all is wrong when it involves manipulation and the goal is money not God .
It's time to start celebrating Anniversary in right perspective not with motive of using Anniversary to get money to build church , pay ministers or finance the shepherd.
Anniversary should be centred on God and him alone . People can give but must never be by force or manipulation but willingly according to what they decide to give .
May God help us.
I invite you to our Anniversary
