The prophets are not to give a Christian direction but that doesn't mean there is no more prophet in the new testament.

In Ephesians 4:11, one of the gifts to the church aside pastor, Evangelist, teacher , Apostle, is the Prophet . So that means , the prophet still have function in the new testament.

The work of the prophet is not to sell soap, oil, perfume, fruits or handkerchiefs for blessings or protection but to speak by the spirit of prophecy the testimony of Jesus Christ. 

Prophets are seers , and their vision must be to magnify Jesus , Christ Jesus must be the goal of the vision , prophesy and the message .

Now, the first article I wrote , I had to post it first so you won't depend on prophets for directions but on Holy Spirit. Prophets can miss it based on interpretation of visions .

Note : A vision doesn't mean a Direction

Acts 21:10-13 KJV (King James Version)

And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judæa a certain prophet, named Agabus. And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

The people told Paul not to go to Jerusalem but Paul knew that He had to go and was ready to die for the gospel of Christ. That doesn't mean Agabus was fake but Paul had to go to Jerusalem. 

Also Many times, prophets had given prophetic words that guide the church but we must not depend on prophets but on Holy Spirit for direction.
